Ep. 7 - Why leaders need friendship and community

LaToya Collins-Jones

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION PRACTITIONER

Right before Americans were forced into isolation by the covid-19 pandemic, divided by politics, and working from home - the U.S. Surgeon General warned the country was facing an “epidemic of loneliness”. We all are working ourselves to burn out and spending way too much time on social media.

More than half the country reports being lonely, depressed, anxious, and stressed out. But I challenge you to find time to slow down and get to know the people that the universe places in front of you.

I never thought I’d make new friendships at this stage of my life. I met LaToya Collins at a women’s retreat in Colorado. In a remote cabin with little cell phone signal and more than enough time to chat - we learned we had a ton in common.

LaToya is a leader of Diversity and Inclusion at a Fortune 500 tech company where she has spearheaded change and progress for the entire organization. In addition to her corporate contributions, LaToya is a digital creative at heart. She recently launched her new platform "The Intentional Leader" where she works to equip the next generation of "disruptors" to make an impact where ever their passions and purpose takes them.

LaToya and I sit down to talk about how overcoming imposter syndrome, loneliness, and self doubt is more than possible when done in community.

You can find out more about LaToya on LinkedIn, Instagram, and her YouTube channel.
